See that last marble slab there, it’s from Yaxchilan, a Mayan city, it “depicts the culmination of a bloodletting ritual. Lady Wak Tuun, a wife of Yaxchilan’s ruler Yaaxun B’ahlam IV, carries a basket that contains a stingray spine, rope, and bloodied pieces of bark paper. Another container of bloodied paper its nearby, burning as an offering to her ancestors. From the smoke rises a vision serpent from whose jaws emerges a human head that engages with Lady Wak Tuun.” That was partially copied from the Maya exhibit currently at the Canadian Museum of Civilization. Which I went to the opening for last Thursday, also anyone seen Road to ElDorado… recognize that hoop maybe?
